I was responsible for overseeing their content, from writing and illustration through to final publication while ensuring a steady and consistent production schedule for monthly, bimonthly and quarterly issues.\nI was responsible for the entire workflow to ensure the reliable delivery of finished magazines to printing presses, both in France and internationally. This amounted to up to 200 finalized pages per month for several years.\nMagazines I managed as editor-in-chief and/or editorial director:\nHistoire Médiévale (French) Histoire Antique (French) Histoire et science des religions (French) L’art de la guerre (later renamed Histoire mondiale des conflits - French) Mémoire et patrimoine (French) Medieval History magazine Writing Workshops # I have led writing and ideation workshops, for example at the University of Technology of Compiègne and during the Archipel 2026 conference, focusing on issues related to technology. I have also organized workshops on issues related to cultural commons, for example as part of the Campus du Libre.\n","date":"9 September 2026","externalUrl":null,"permalink":"/experience/presse/","section":"Experience","summary":"","title":"Editorial Oversight","type":"experience"},{"content":"I have written in French four novels and about a hundred short stories set in the same universe, in the 12th century, during the era of the Crusades, creating a complex and vibrant society populated by hundreds of very diverse characters. The development of this body of work was based on rigorous research across numerous fields, including textual and archaeological sources as well as academic studies, to ensure the accuracy of historical events and daily life, with the aim of bringing to life the social attitudes of the time.\nThe Ernaut of Jerusalem Series # This series chronicles the adventures of Ernaut, a Burgundian who settled in the Holy Land in the mid-12th century. Each story offers an opportunity to discover a facet of Mediterranean society at that time, through an investigation that delves into a cosmopolitan and exotic society.\nQit’a Short Stories # Set on the periphery of the novels in the Ernaut Cycle, these are short stories set in the same world but spanning a broader temporal and geographical scope. Here you’ll find glimpses into other moments in the hero’s life as well as the fates of secondary and minor characters from the novels. There are just over a hundred stories spread across the five volumes, with each scene precisely located and dated, just as in the novels, to offer new perspectives on certain passages once the entire series has been read.\n","date":"10 September 2026","externalUrl":null,"permalink":"/experience/romans/","section":"Experience","summary":"","title":"Novels \u0026 Short Stories","type":"experience"},{"content":"I designed and implemented a publishing system that is robust and community-oriented using a set of GitLab templates to automate all technical operations. This pipeline leverages Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment to seamlessly create and deploy ePub and PDF files from Markdown and SVG source files, all directly to a website and a private Nextcloud instance.\nFor maximum portability and ease of maintenance, the core processing is based on Makefile files and Bash scripts containerized around the pandoc software. Its manual was created using the tool itself, reflecting the use of recursion within the developer community.\nTo manage my fictional universe (nearly 400 characters, spanning decades of stories dated down to the exact day and location) and maintain narrative consistency, I developed a workflow using a dedicated wiki (based on Dokuwiki) for data and a custom Python framework to publish the final works in Markdown, ePub, PDF and web formats. It also allowed me to publish all my work online in an accessible format on the Hexagora website from my workstation asynchronously, using Markdown documents and a repository managed with version control software (git).\n","date":"11 September 2026","externalUrl":null,"permalink":"/experience/pipelines/","section":"Experience","summary":"","title":"Text Engineering","type":"experience"},{"content":"As an experienced photographer, I have been shooting historical and cultural subjects for many years. This has allowed me to co-author and edit several popular history books based on my pictures. Depending on the book, some of the scenes were shot in a studio or at suitable locations.\nMy approach is to treat historical reenactments as a form of time travel, capturing scenes that appear authentic. When necessary, certain images are then meticulously retouched, sometimes using computer-generated imagery, to achieve the desired historical accuracy and eliminate anachronisms.\nIn addition to being used in books and press, this photographic work has been featured in several museum exhibitions in France and Belgium.\nBooks based on my photographs # Images Collected Over the Years # ","date":"12 September 2026","externalUrl":null,"permalink":"/experience/photographe/","section":"Experience","summary":"","title":"Photography","type":"experience"},{"content":" I am proficient in Blender and am capable of creating complete 3D scenes, potentially based on precise historical documentation. This ranges from modeling—including procedural modeling using Geometry nodes—to texturing and rigging.\nHaving worked on every stage of creating such an image has given me a better understanding of the logical sequence of operations and the technical constraints involved. I was also able to organize the necessary documentation to extract relevant elements as needs arose. And this applies regardless of the form: textual, playful or visual.\nIn practice, I’m comfortable with every stage of the narrative creation process, from research to final publication, whether for a magazine, a historical novel, a game (video or otherwise) or a 3D rendering. To avoid getting bogged down in repetitive tasks, I rely on various digital tools, software, procedures (continuous integration, version control, pipelines…), scripts and custom programs.\nAnd since I love sharing this alchemy, I’m also comfortable facilitating ideation or writing workshops to help others find their own balance between the necessary tools, the expected rigor and the desired creativity.\n","date":"9 September 2026","externalUrl":null,"permalink":"/experience/","section":"Experience","summary":"","title":"Experience","type":"experience"},{"content":" Name Email Message Send ","date":"18 August 2026","externalUrl":null,"permalink":"/contact/","section":"Yann Kervran","summary":"","title":"Contact","type":"page"},{"content":"Your project is about more than just writing or coding.\nIt needs an architect, someone with a holistic vision who lays the groundwork: the story, the structure, the tools and the interface\nI help you keep all of this cohesive within a single project that serves your narrative.
